It is truly said by Oli Hille that "If you truly treat your body like a temple, it will serve you well for decades.". There is no doubt about the fact that wellness is an ongoing commitment to self-care, self-awareness, and proactive health. In today’s fast-moving world, with hustling chaos, balancing work with personal life fun, and various responsibilities to take care of, one can easily feel overwhelmed. Why not? It is not easy at all. We are just running but not stopping, taking a breather, and relaxing ourselves to feel calm and peaceful for a moment.
While it is important to run errands and maintain a 9-5 job while taking time out for friends and family over weekends, it is important to incorporate wellness practices into your daily routine. You are not making them a part of your routine, but you are nurturing all aspects of your health—physical, mental, and emotional. Wellness is not just about fitness or eating healthy on time—it is a holistic approach to nurturing your body, mind, and spirit.
Dr. V.M. Gopal Menon, Ayurvedic physician, Vaidyaratnam Vrindavan Ayurveda Chikitsalayam, explains, “Prioritising holistic wellness is more important than ever. Start with Pranayama, an ancient breathing technique that balances the mind and body."
Practicing pranayama, he adds, enhances lung function, reduces stress, and improves focus, making it an essential tool for navigating a fast-paced world. "Incorporating stretching into your daily routine can do wonders for your physical health. Eating mindfully, with an emphasis on natural, nutrient-rich foods, supports digestion, energy levels, and overall health,” he says.
Prioritising your mental health should be no. 1 on the to-do list because with a peaceful mind, everything else in life becomes clearer and more manageable.
Stress management is critical. While yoga and healthy eating are long-standing pillars of wellness, the future demands more emphasis on mental health. "Dedicate time to mindfulness practices like meditation, journaling, or simply spending time in nature. These habits foster inner peace, emotional balance, and resilience against life’s pressures," Menon says.
Not only this, “Wellness goes beyond the idea of treating and caring for illness and turning towards adding value and improving the quality of your day, leading to healthier reactions to life. Maintaining self-care kits and learning your love languages is one of the wellness practices that every one of us should adopt. We should normalise resting and need to learn when to pause, reflect, charge, and regulate daily things,” says Neha Kumar, counselling psychologist, DocVita.
