A few lifestyle changes can bring positive and healthy changes to your heart

Valentine’s Day is the day of love and all things related to your heart. Your heart is among the most important organs in your body, which is responsible for your overall health and well-being. However, it is important to take care of it as well, through some lifestyle changes that you can make.
According to experts, a few heart-healthy steps you can take include:

Diet switches

According to studies, excess weight is linked to higher blood pressure and unhealthy blood lipid levels, which lead to various cardiovascular diseases. And so, eat fewer calories and watch your portion sizes to make a big difference.
Eating a diet rich in soluble fibre can also help lower your level of low-density lipoprotein, or bad cholesterol, which includes beans, oats, barley, apples, pears, and avocados. Doctors recommend not skipping breakfast and adding lots of whole grains like oatmeal, cereals, fruits, and vegetables to your daily diet.
Also, do serve yourself a small size of nuts, which deliver a powerful punch of heart-healthy fats, protein, and fibre.
Limit your salt intake to just half a teaspoon a day, as it can significantly cut coronary heart disease. Processed and restaurant-prepared foods are especially high in salt.

Incorporate exercise

No matter how much you weigh, sitting for long periods of time can shorten your lifespan, especially your heart health. According to experts, if you work at a desk, make sure to take regular breaks to move around. Go for a stroll on your lunch break, and enjoy regular exercise in your leisure time.
Also, practice yoga to improve balance, flexibility, and strength. It can help you relax and relieve stress. Apart from that, aerobic fitness is also an important key to keeping your heart healthy, but it’s not the only type of exercise you should do. It’s also important to include regular strength training sessions in your schedule. The more muscle mass you build, the more calories you burn. That can help you maintain a heart-healthy weight and fitness level.

Take care of your mental health

It is important to know that your mental health—stress and anxiety levels—do have a significant effect on your physical health, especially the heart. Put your hands to work to help your mind unwind. Engaging in activities such as knitting, sewing, and crocheting can help relieve stress and do your ticker some good. Other relaxing hobbies to take the edge off stressful days.
